We accepted this because it was new. We called it transparency. But transparency was meant for the powerful, and it was handed to everyone else.
The cypherpunks said it in 1993: privacy is the power to choose what you reveal. A private person is not a person with something to hide. It's a person with something that is theirs.
You close the door to the bathroom. You seal the envelope. You don't announce your salary at dinner. None of this is suspicious. All of it is normal. Money should be normal too.
A mask says: I am not here. The shield says: I am here — and that is all you get.
That is what shielded means. The transaction happens. The network verifies it. The math proves it. And nobody learns anything they weren't meant to learn. Present, verified, unidentified.
